Remembering the St. Louis Globe-Democrat

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat

The Globe-Democrat was St. Louis' daily "Good Morning" up until 1986, when it ran out of money and closed. If you worked at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat or just read the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, you're welcome to leave a note here.

If you have any photos or scannable Globe-Democrat memorabilia, create an account and upload the images to your own gallery. Any problems? Email me using the contact form.

Durney Articles

I'm looking for articles that my father wrote when he worked for the Globe. He was a police reporter in the 50s and early 60s. Kenneth M. Durney passed away at an early age (49) on New Years Eve, while at work. At that time, the police reporters were officed at StL Police Headquarters.

Community Fire Dept info

My father was a firefighter and he died in May of 1967. My son is pursuing a career in firefighting and was interested in my father's history as a firefighter. He worked in the Community Fire Dept on Lackland Rd in Overland. My mother has passed away and I do not have much info or pictures, etc. I read that the Globe did an article in 1964 on the new diesel powered fire apparatus the dept received. I am looking for ANYTHING that can give us more info. His name was Roy Daniel and I hope I can get some help. Thank you.

LOOKING FOR AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED ON MAY 2ND OR 3RD. IN 1970

MY HUSBAND OF 21/2 YEARS WAS STABBED TO DEATH WHILE HE WAS BEING ROBBED OF HIS PAYCHECK.

HE WAS 20 YEARS OLD, WORKED FOR THE CITY OF ST.LOUIS STREET DIVISION OF LIGHTING. HE LEFT BEHIND A 2 YR OLD SON, AND A 19 YEAR OLD WIFE.

NOW OUR SON IS LOOKING FOR ANYTHING THAT WAS WRITTEN ABOUT HIS FATHER IN THE GLOBE.

Looking for help!

I am a former St. Louis resident and I am looking for an article published June 3, 1941, page 7 & 8a.
My father passed away some 26 yrs. ago and I am in possession of his army papers to find out why he never recieved the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor that were awarded to him. My mother is still alive and I would like to retrieve them for her before she passes.
If you can help me I would be very thankful.

Seeking St. Louis Levee / Riverboat Photos

Hello!

Connie Conroy among those killed in Kirkwood city council meeting

Here is the note that I received this morning from Lynn Zipfel Venhaus:

Hello friends
Such sad news -- Connie Karr, our dear former St. Louis Globe-Democrat colleague we knew by the byline of Connie Conroy, was among those who died in the horrendous Kirkwood City Hall shooting Thursday evening. She was serving her second term on the city council.

Days and nights on the rim

I'll never forget those hot summer nights working the rim in the sports department, in a building with no air conditioning. Herman Squeezingham, Marvin Potsterton, Arby Fallstrom, Tom Clone, Generic Face Offner and Agate Galarraga.

The 13-run pool, run by that great old guy whose name slips my 58-year-old mind.

Jack Farmer answering the phone, "Th--ports."

Myron leaving for home before dark because everyone knew his car didn't have headlights.

Help!

I am a retired journalist - used to teach at the University of Mo. School of Journalism in the 1980s, was with the Eugene Register-Guard, Seattle P-I, etc. I am writing a book on writing and want to use a piece by Bill Smith who wrote about Union Station prior to its rehab. Any idea how to reach him?

Globe Democrat Cookbook

Does anyone know if there is a Globe Democrat cookbook? If there is, is it still in print? If it is not in print, does anyone know where a may purchase a copy, or know of anyone that may want to sell thier copy? Thank you so much for your help!
